Hi there, friends! It's been a while since I last posted because I was single-momming it for nearly a month, and that gig is hard, especially with kids at these ages. I have much respect for ladies who do it alone all the time! Alex was gone to Alaska for a long TDY, and things went well for the first 2.5 weeks. We spent a lot of time with our friends were also living the TDY life, hung out at the pool, and tried to keep busy with trips to the zoo/bookstore/our beloved Publix. Things were surprisingly relaxed for a while, too. There were very few behavioral inconsistencies to handle, and I had to pinch myself a few times to make sure I wasn't dreaming. In fact, I found myself just waiting for the other shoe to drop, because I knew things were going a little too well. My kids are not this easy.
And then the other shoe did drop.
Hard.
Big ol' shoe.
In the span of one weekend:
- Bobby got us evicted from Target and almost had the cops called on us. Literally. (long story...wouldn't do to tell).
- I had to call poison control on Vivi (turned out to be a false alarm and she's fine).
- Bobby puked all over my entire living room (I am a master at vomit removal, and I guess he just likes to keep my skills sharp).
- Viv created a ballpoint pen masterpiece all over my bedroom wall (I guess I should just stop taking bathroom breaks altogether).
- Bob greeted our neighbors' parents sans underpants (like completely dropped trou in front of absolute strangers).
- Vivi drew on herself in black sharpie (which took fifty-'leven days to scrub off, especially in the belly-button region).
- Bobby stopped up the toilet on three different occasions (how?)
- I had to fish out 48 pieces of sidewalk chalk from the bottom of the pool after my lovely children dumped the entire container in the deep end (and I have an irrational fear of getting wet).
- And then Vivi threw it all back in again, and I said eff that noise.
I knew things were too easy.
So, needless to say, we were all ecstatic when Daddy returned home!
The kids have been completely besotted with him every single minute that he is home from work, and I think it's safe to say that Bobby's Top Gun/Daddy obsession is at an all-time high. Which I'm totally fine with. I could use a minute alone.
Here are a few fun Friday Favorites:
I just got this awesome one-piece that I am completely obsessed with. Yes, it's a one-piece, but I swear it's just as sexy as a bikini, if maybe not even a little more. It has a Marilyn Monroe/Lana Del Rey/retro/pin-up vibe to it, and it looks almost like lingerie from the 1950s. So it's definitely got some sex appeal to it, despite being a one piece. The polka dots are really sassy and I love them, but they have many other colors to choose from. I'm also dying for another one in a solid color. Maybe just plain white?
So apparently Mississippi roast has been circulating around Pinterest for forever (I'm late to everything because I have beasties to chase). Somehow I am just now becoming friends with my crock pot, so I only just now made the recipe. If you haven't tried it, DO IT. It's so good. I don't even especially like traditional pot roast, but this is not traditional pot roast. I halved the butter and added beef stock, and it tasted just as good as the full-fat version!
These Kendra Scott earrings were a sweet, not-so-subtly-hinted-at Mother's Day gift, and I love them so much. The amethyst is stunning, and the Carla style is a nice medium size earring. I've been wearing them non-stop since Mother's Day.
This video has had Viv and me in tears laughing over and over again. I don't know why cats freak out over cucumbers, but I'm suddenly wishing we had one that we could test this out on. Watching this video is currently Vivi's favorite way to waste time. She begs to watch the kitties all day long ;)
I have been hunting for a round, mid-century modern mirror to go in our future powder room. I've seen several, but they've been ranging from $150-300, and that's just more than I'm willing to pay. And then I saw this little beauty for $49 from Target. It looks exactly like the more expensive ones for a fraction of the cost. Done and done. It's not sold online, but it is still in some stores!
I've always thought that I couldn't do rompers based on my body type. And then I tried on this little number, and it all made sense. I love this romper. It's one of the few adult-looking items I've ever found at F21, and it is really flattering and doesn't make me look like I'm trying to be a woman-child. Mustard yellow isn't for everyone, but I think the color is perfection on a tan blonde with red lips!
This is hilarious. So, so funny. And eerily similar to some kind of bullshit that would happen to me.
I'm currently trying to lay low on dessert, since I have a beach bachelorette bash to attend next month. So maybe that's why I can't stop thinking about brownies. This 3 Ingredient Nutella Brownie recipe looks amazing, and I'm also intrigued by this recipe that claims to be 37 calories per brownie. Could be worth a little kitchen experimentation this weekend.
We started the weekend a little early with a jaunt down to the food trucks at Seaside last night, where I demolished a Brie & bacon grilled cheese sandwich. Starting things off right! ;)
I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend!
