I try to make a bucket list for every season, although it's usually scribbled on a piece of notebook paper and stuffed in a drawer instead of drawn out and displayed on our refrigerator. There's something about this Summer, though, that makes me want to make tons of plans.
I won't lie--Summer is not my favorite season. I like it in theory; there's something nostalgic about spending all day outside, having chlorine in your hair, getting bitten by mosquitoes, and having your entire body sticky from watermelon juice and bomb pops. Those things define Summer for kids. It's what I remember of Summer as a child, and it's something that my children can still enjoy to this day. That's what I love about Summer.
The thing I hate about Summer is that it lasts so damn long. And it's so. damn. hot. Living in the South, Summer lasts nearly til Christmas. I love it for the first few weeks, but then it starts getting really old really fast to me, and I find myself aching for football season by the time July rolls around. The great part is that the days are so long. The awful part is that the days are so long. If you have little kids, you know what I mean.
I decided that I want to make the most of Summer this year, though, so I'm having to psych myself up for it. If I have a list of activities to keep us busy, the time doesn't feel like it's dragging as much. So that's why I have drawn up a ridiculously terrible-looking draft of our Summer Bucket List and have it displayed in our kitchen--to keep ideas at my fingertips the minute I begin to feel the itch of being stuck in the house way too long.
I am most looking forward to going to the outdoor movies that they show around here and hanging out at Crab Island. I didn't put it on the list, but I would also love to go to a concert at some point. And I've never eaten from a food truck, so that's pretty high on the list, too. Food is always high on any list of mine.
So we are beginning to embark upon our Summer fun, and we are spending most of the day outside today! What's on your Summer Bucket List?
