Now you have that song stuck in your brain. You’re welcome.
For many, music is an important
part of working out. A fast beat
can get you moving faster and enthuse you for the workout to come. I used to listen to music a lot more
while running when I was just starting out. To this day, Tom Petty’s Don’t
Do Me Like That will always invoke visions of Village Coffee in Boulder as
that song always came on about the point in my run when I passed Village
Coffee (a must if you are ever in Boulder- if you pass this up for a fancy breakfast on Pearl Street, you are dead to me).
When I got into
serious running, music became something I usually reserve for race days or
treadmill days. Most music that I listen to
isn’t music for a fast workout. I
grew up listening to Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Otis Redding. I belt out Chantilly Lace like nobody’s
business, which I’m certain The Boy will really appreciate as he enters his
teen years.
However, even I admit
that Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
will hardly attribute to a PR. In
my sculpt classes, I tried to incorporate some newer fast tunes, but for the
most part, I stick to classical music.
I love most pieces from Two Steps From Hell and The Piano Guys. You can really find some upbeat classical
pieces, and of course, I love them for unwinding with yoga.
I have trouble following the
music charts lately and purchasing music from them. I will be the quintessential old person and say, “Music
these days is just crap.”
Honestly, I don’t like the songs about sex, drugs, and overall, just
being a drain on society. (I told
you I have the soul of an 1800s person.)
But, I do recognize that a lot of those songs are upbeat… I just don’t
want to pay for them.
So, the solution is
Pandora! The two stations I listen
to on there are the Sketchers Interval station and the Katy Perry station. Both stations have up-tempo music, and
none of it is stuff that I have on my regular iPod. The Sketchers Interval station is relatively new, and they
are commercial-free with only the occasional interruption to give you a workout
tip. I dig it.
I would tell you to send me
some music you love to workout to, but in all honesty, I’m set in my ways. Best that I just tell you that
now.
Time to fly,
Liz
