I look forward to May 4th each year, as it is the official Star Wars holiday. I don't know what it is about the franchise--the concept of space
travel, the jokes, the lightsabers, or simply the lovable
characters--but the saga is truly an American classic that generation after generation can enjoy.
I have loved these films since childhood. My mama and I would curl up in her big bed on Saturday afternoons and watch all of them in a row. They've always held a special place in my heart.
I decided that Bobby is finally old enough to fall in love with Star Wars this year, and I am so excited to introduce him!
I woke up earlier than usual this morning to prepare pancakes in the shapes of an X-wing fighter and the Millennium Falcon. My sweet in-laws recently sent me the molds for these, and it was the funniest, most random present to open up. I've been waiting to debut them today!
The kiddos had a blast eating their galactic daybreak feast while wearing their favorite Star Wars clothing (and we have plenty to choose from)!
After breakfast we made some ice saber popsicles from this kit that my other mother-in-law gave me (seriously, my in-laws know me way too well). We just put them in the freezer so that they will be ready for a perfect after-nap snack!
And now we are watching the second best film(s) of all time (number one is, of course, Gone With the Wind)! I'm starting with the original trilogy, beginning with Episode IV: A New Hope. This is the first real time I've ever turned it on for the kids, and they were immediately entranced with the music. Bobby is sitting on the floor and hasn't moved for quite a while due to all of the inter-galactic fighting. It's so fun for me to point new things out to them and to teach them the ways of the Force.
"Bobby, that's a wookie!"
"Oooh, no, those are bad Jawa traders."
"Vivi, that's Han Solo. We love him. He knows."
Like I mentioned before, we have an obscene amount of Star Wars paraphernalia in our home. I try to keep myself reigned in so that no one entering my home confuses me with a twelve year old nerd, but it's a tough line to toe. Here are some of my favorites things for May the 4th (and every day). I'm an especially huge fan of the sexy Leia apron that Alex got me last Christmas. And I am still looking for a spot in my home to hang the "I love you/ I know" silhouette pictures. Those are the best.
Hello Trooper toddler t-shirt // Star Wars Cook Book // Rebel Alliance pillow // Vader tank top // Leia apron // Yoda toddler tee // I love you/I know prints // Darth Vader sleeping bag
So this is what we will be doing all day if anybody needs us. I'm really looking forward to Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. That's my favorite one for multiple reasons, and I can't wait to explain to my children what a "nerfherder" actually is.
Happy Monday!
May the Fourth be with You!!!
Second best mom ever
